Glacier Course for Skitouring - 5 days
Learn Glacier Travel & Rescue for backcountry ski tours
Experience spectacular glacier & mountain scenery
Description
This is course held in the big mountain area in Norway called Jostedalen. In this region the amazing glacier called "Jostedalsbreen" lies. The glacier provides excellent conditions for learning about glacier travel from a skitouring perspective, because there is many different arms of the glacier flowing down into the lowland from the high glacier platou.
All participants are staying at the "Jostedalen camping". Here participants can stay at either a cabin or in their tents, all dependent on individual wishes.
The itenerary below is just to been seen as a basic plan for the course, as some of the days may be switched around due to the prevailent weather conditions.
Day 1
Meeting up in Jostedalen during the afternoon/evening. Introductions and preperation of equipment.
Day 2
Topics for the day, snow sense, crampon technique introductions to tying into the rope and walking together in a rope team. Eventhough it is a glacier course, we will be starting the day with avalanche training/excersice
Day 3
Rescue day, introductions to basic rescue systems
Day 4
Touring day. Today we will be utilizing our newfound skills to conduct a longer tour up on the glaciers! Exact trip will be decided based on the skill level in our group aswell as the prevailent conditions on the glacier and the weather.
Day 5
Tour day! We aim to do another long trip today far up onto the glacier platou! We also try to understand how we are finding the best snow for the descent.
Day 6
Rescue/technical day, developing the rescue systems we already learned into more advanced solutions.
After we return from the trip, participants are either leaving in the afternoon/evening or staying another night in the camping ground, all dependent on their individual travel plans.

Who is this course for
This course is mainly for people that are already relatively experienced ski tourers, but want to learn how to do skitours on glaciated terrain.
Eventhough the course is about glacier travel, we also have to do some avalanche excersices during the first days.
Thus the course is not so much for people who just want a guided trip.
For persons who are more interested in just enjoying the spectacular glacier & mountain scenery without having to learn to many technical aspects, I recommed checking out the amazing ski touring week:
Spring skiing week - Jotunheimen
You do not need to be "extremly fit" in order to join the 5 day glacier course, however we are going to be outside for 5 full days, and some days we aim to do some relatively long and demanding day tours, so some minimum level of ski touring fitness is required before joining this course.
If in doubt of this point, please contact and let's clear it out.
If you show up well prepared you will be rewarded with a course in amazingly spectacular nature and scenery in one of Norways most impressive mountain and glacier landscapes.
Hopefully you will become friends with the unreal beautiful Norweigian nature, aswell as making some new friends in our fellowship.

Location & Transport
Jostedalen lies the region called "Sogn & Fjordane" in Norway. It feels as it is a kind of "remote vally", but fear not there is both a camping ground and grocery store located in the valley.
It is possible to travel to either "Sogndal" or "Lom" with buss from either Bergen or Oslo.
And from either "Sogndal" or "Lom" you can travel with the local buss to "Gaupne", and from there to "Gjerde" in Jostedalen.
